Art and in particular dance speak beyond barriers of language and culture. Our dance workshops are designed for those who have experienced trauma in the sex industry. DMT, Dance Movement Therapy is based upon the the belief that the body and mind interact. DMT provides a non-verbal way to look at the connection between the body and emotions. Our particpants have often experienced trauma to the body. Dancing is often seen as a more uplifting and enjoyable experience. This is why dance is a good way to encourage the participants to use their body in an enjoyable way which empowers them both in mind and body. Survivors can eventually regain a sense of control in a safe space and give their body a voice again.
- Improving social skills and relationships dynamics
- Regaining control over the body
- Connecting; how the mind influences the body and vice versa
- Physical training – Improving health
- Moving beyond fear
The Dance Workshops have no more than 8 participants in one group, this is so that we can give enough attention to each individual. The response of each participant may vary and sufficient time and observation is needed to understand the non-verbal communication.
