Human trafficking touches every country in the world. However, each country plays a different role in this crime. The Netherlands is a destination (and a source) country. A destination country is the country a human trafficking victim get’s trafficked to and sold. Moldova is the largest source country in Europe. A source country is the country the trafficked victim gets recruited from.
In order to find long term and preventive solutions we have to look at the cause. Besides that, human trafficking is a major human rights violation and a huge economical problem. Poverty is one of the main reasons why mostly women and children get trafficked.
Our team at Share partnered with Heroes International and Tekwill to work together on this.
Some highlights from our trip.
Our visit to Dounia
Dounia is a World War II survivor. By the age of twelve, she was considered damaged goods because she had been assaulted by Nazi’s. One of her eyes got infected and died after being hit by the back of a gun. After a while, she was starting to go blind in her other eye as well. @Heroes International recently gave Dounia medial treatment and now she can see again.
